Roy Meyer, Violin and Viola Instructor

roy-meyer-violin-instructorRoy Meyer teaches violin & viola. He has spent the last year making musical appearances nationwide, including in New York, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, and Wisconsin. Since completion of his studies at NYU in 2015, Roy has worked for several renowned orchestras. Orchestral positions include concertmaster of Illinois Symphony Orchestra and NY Concerti Sinfonietta, and section violinist for the Sarasota Orchestra, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. In New York City, Roy performed various solo and chamber recitals, playing many times in Carnegie’s Weill Hall, as well as in the Tenri Art Institute, Symphony Space, and National Opera Center of America.

Roy began his violin studies with Kyoko Fuller of the American Suzuki Talent Education Center in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. At age 17, Roy made his solo debut with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, playing Wieniawski’s second violin concerto. In 2012, Roy completed a B.M. in violin performance under the guidance of revered professor David Perry at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He graduated in 2014 with a M.M. from the University of South Florida under the tutelage of Carolyn Stuart. At NYU, Roy studied with Professors Greg Fulkerson, Naoko Tanaka, and Laurie Hamilton (co-concertmaster of the Met Orchestra).

In addition to his private music studies, Roy is an active performer of chamber music and has recently collaborated alongside members of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra with members of the Silk Road Ensemble. Past chamber music instructors have included: Stephanie Chase, Kikuei Ikeda, Steve Balderston, Scott Kluksdahl, Parry Karp, and Suzanne Beia. As a student, Roy performed with pianist Joe Hauer at NYU, and was a member of USF’s “Presidents trio” and UW-Madison’s “Perlman Trio,” both highly distinguished chamber positions at their respective institutions.

As a teacher, Roy maintains a private studio, has been an adjunct violin professor at NYU, and has held violin masterclasses at Apollo Music Festival, UW-Oshkosh, and the Noel Aber Suzuki Center in Stevens Point, WI. Past summers have included fellowships with the International Music Festival at Round Top (2009, 2011 and 2013). Roy has performed in master classes conducted by Wu Han, Malcom Bilson, Patrick Strub, Wendy Sharp, Kevin Lawrence and Lina Bahn.
