Knight Music Academy Course Descriptions

Knight Music Academy offers a wide variety of music programs and lessons for children, teens, and adults in the warm and inviting atmosphere of our spacious studio located in Lake Zurich.

We offer private instruction, group classes, ensembles, early childhood courses, children's Orff classes, and performance opportunities. Additionally, Knight Music Academy serves the community by providing offsite music programs throughout Lake County, Illinois as well as Summer Programs.

We currently offer classical guitar lessons, violin & viola lessons, and cello lessons in both Suzuki and Traditional methods. We also offer piano lessons, flute, and voice lessons in the traditional method of study.

Admission and Registration Process

As part of our admission and registration process, we require the parent and student complete an intake interview which includes a tour of our facility, and a complimentary mini-lesson & evaluation. During the interview we will review the expectations of both the parent and student, discuss what you can expect from the Academy, and answer any questions you have regarding our program.

Suzuki Private Instruction (ages 5 to 18)

Offered in 30, 45, or 60 minutes.
This 11-week program features one-on-one lessons plus a group class given on a weekly basis in 30, 45, or 60-minute sessons. Structured for classical guitar lessons, violin & viola lessons, cello lessons, and piano lessons, this course utilizes the Suzuki method of music instruction. The fundamental philosophy of Suzuki pedagogy is the belief that talent can be developed at any age in much the same way we all learned to speak — through listening, imitation, repetition, and a supportive, nurturing environment. Initially, music is learned by rote. When the child is at both an appropriate age and place academically, as well as able to demonstrate a solid foundation of basic techniques, note reading is introduced. The curriculum requires that parents attend lessons and group classes with their children and take copious notes to facilitate their child's daily home practice.
11-week tuition rates:
30 min courses, $495
45 min courses, $643
60 min courses, $836

Traditional Private Lessons (ages 9 to adult)

Offered in 30, 45, or 60 minutes.
This 11-week program for classical guitar lessons, violin & viola lessons, cello lessons, voice lessons, and piano lessons features one-on-one instruction given on a weekly basis in 30, 45, or 60-minute sessons. Students simultaneously work on developing note reading skills, technique and musicality. Consistent attendance and practice, as well as participation in performances are essential elements for success. Please note that children ages 9-11 may be enrolled in either the Suzuki or traditional programs.
11-week tuition rates:
30 min courses, $412
45 min courses, $561
60 min courses, $754

Adult Group Instruction

This 11-week program offers a 45-minute group class for classical guitar, violin & viola, and cello instruction. Students with little or no prior experience will learn the fundamentals of playing the instrument. Correct posture, note reading, and ensemble skills will be covered.
11-week tuition rate: $220

Ensemble Group Class (ages 9 to adult)

This supplemental 11-week ensemble program features a weekly 45-minute class for students to rehearse and progress further based on a mastery of certain competencies. Students will be invited by their private/group instructors to enroll. Ensembles consist of students of the same instrument or other instruments.
11-week tuition rate: $220

Mini Mozarts Early Childhood
(ages 1 to 4)

This 11-week organic program, influenced by Orff and Suzuki methodologies, provides sequential music education focused on the rudiments of music: beat, rhythm, and pitch-matching. Through age appropriate mediums such as song, rhyme, chant, movement, and child-friendly instruments, children internalize these concepts while developing a love for music. Children develop important life skills including listening, following directions, and social interaction. Parents and their children learn music together while bonding in these fun and nurturing classes. The concepts learned in these classes serve as a strong foundation for children who continue their music journey by selecting an instrument and enrolling in Suzuki and/or Orff classes. Each 45 minute class is limited to 10 children and their caregivers. Unlike other programs, we do not charge a materials fee!
11-week tuition rate: $145

Mini Mozarts Schedule

  • Tuesday: 10:30 AM, 2:00 PM, and 6:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 10:30 AM
  • Orff Schedule

  • Tuesday: 5:00 PM
  • Orff Class (ages 5 to 8)

Orff class is an exciting and fun 30-minute group class where children explore general music concepts through singing, chanting, movement, use of pitched and unpitched percussion instruments, and props. Students are strongly encouraged to take this class in conjunction with Suzuki lessons; however, this class serves nicely as a transition from Mini Mozarts classes to Suzuki instruction for students not yet ready to begin studying an instrument.
