Academy Policies

ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION

  • A complimentary lesson and an intake interview must be completed prior to enrollment.
  • Students accepted into the program must complete a registration form, reserve a lesson/class time and make payment prior to the first lesson/class. Payment must be made within seven (7) days of reserving a lesson/class. Thereafter, the lesson/class slot will be taken off reserve as enrollment is first-come-first-serve.
  • If we cannot immediately place a student due to a shortage of studio openings or specific scheduling requests, prospective students will be placed on a waiting list. Please note: we monitor waiting lists carefully and will contact students as soon as placement becomes available.
  • Guitar and Cello Students Only: Students ages 10 and under are required to enroll in Suzuki lessons and group classes.
  • Suzuki Students Only: Should a student elect to not participate in the required Suzuki group class, no tuition adjustment will be made. Additionally, a student may be placed on probation for a period of one quarter. Should improvement in group class attendance not be made by the end of the probationary period a student may be dismissed from the program.

TUITION AND PAYMENT

  • Tuition is billed quarterly and is due in full prior to the delivery of the first lesson. If lump sum payment is not feasible, we will accept up to three post-dated checks totaling the full amount to be tendered to Knight Music Academy prior to the start of a term. Accepted forms of payment include cash, checks, credit/debit cards and bank transfer. Please note: payment by credit card cannot take place via phone, nor do we keep credit card numbers on file. A credit card processing fee appears on all invoices. Please disregard and deduct from your total if paying by cash, check, or bank transfer.
  • Tuition will be prorated for students who enroll after the start of a quarter.
  • An annual registration fee of $40 per family will be assessed with the first billing cycle for the academic year. The fee will be prorated for families who enroll in subsequent quarters.
  • A student performance fee will be assessed with the first billing cycle of the academic year or upon initial registration for those who register after the fall term.
  • Late payments will incur a late fee of $35.00.
  • A $35 fee will be assessed for all returned checks.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or discontinue instruction of any student with a past due account.
  • All payments are non-refundable.

ATTENDANCE: CANCELLATIONS, MISSED LESSONS, ILLNESS, INCLEMENT WEATHER, ETC.

  • Faculty are not required to make up lessons due to student absences regardless of whether or not notification of absence is given. Students will forfeit their lesson and will be charged for the lesson.
  • Students who are ill should not come to the Academy. During their reserved lesson time, they may receive a remote (Zoom, Google Meet, Facetime, etc.) lesson. We reserve the right to send students home if an instructor has cause to believe a student is sick. No make up will be given in this scenario.
  • Group and ensemble classes may not be made up.
  • Students who arrive late for their lesson will only receive the balance of their lesson time.
  • Lessons missed by the teacher will be made up during the week off between quarters, credited for the upcoming term, or rescheduled at a mutually convenient time.
  • Faculty who are tardy for a lesson must extend the lesson time or arrange to make up the time at a later date.
  • In case of inclement weather, Knight Music Academy reserves the right to cancel lessons/classes which will be made up at the end of the term, or to switch to a remote lesson day. If a remote learning day is implemented, students must either take a remote lesson, or forfeit that lesson.
  • Students may request a remote lesson in lieu of an in-studio lesson. The courtesy of at least a few hours notice to the instructor is required.
  • Mini-Mozarts and Budding Beethoven absences may not be made up. No credits applied to subsequent quarters or refunds given for missed classes.
  • Students who repeatedly miss lessons, or are consistently tardy, may be placed on probation for a period of up to one quarter. Should improvement in attendance not be made by the end of the probationary period the student may be dismissed from the program.
  • A teacher may exercise their right to end a lesson early for a student who is repeatedly unprepared or is conducting themselves inappropriately. This time will not be made up. Should a student be consistently unprepared or ill-mannered, he/she may be placed on probation for a period of up to one quarter. Should improvement in the area in question not be made by the end of the probationary period the student may be dismissed from the program.
  • Absolutely no exceptions to our attendance policy.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

  • Participation in a minimum of two recitals per school year is required of all students under the age of 18.

CONDUCT

  • While on Academy premises, students and those accompanying them are expected to treat our facilities and one another with respect. Failure to comply may result in a student being placed on probation for a period of up to one quarter. Should improvement not be made by the end of the probationary period the student may be dismissed from the program.

PUBLICITY CONSENT

Photos, audio and video of students engaged in activities at the Academy, or while representing the school off school premises, may be used in school publications, our website, social media, newspapers, and other such mediums. Your signature on the registration form constitutes consent and permission by the student and students’ parents/legal guardians to use the student’s image/name/audio for any advertising, marketing, or publicity. This release is irrevocable.

REFERRAL PROGRAM

Individuals who refer a new student may receive a $50 credit toward their tuition.  The referred student must enroll for and complete a quarter of classes.  Credit is applied upon completion of the referred student’s quarter.

OTHER

We reserve the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment.

Should there be insufficient enrollment in any Suzuki group class, we reserve the right to substitute an Orff class or the like in lieu of the group class, or to grandfather the student out of group class until such a time as there is sufficient enrollment.

A student may be dismissed from the program for violation of any of the Academy’s policies.

Should a student wish to discontinue lessons, the courtesy of a written statement to that effect is appreciated no less than four weeks prior to the last lesson.
